It doesn’t take a tree to fall on me to know that we are consuming ourselves to death. Did you know the world population is growing at an alarming rate? By 2050, it is estimated that the population will exceed 9 billion people! Compare that to only 2 billion in 1922. At the present time with 6.8 Billion people, we are consuming 25 percent more resources right now than our planet can produce. If today is a typical day on planet Earth, humans will add 15 million tons of carbon to the atmosphere, destroy 115 square miles of tropical rainforest, create 72 square miles of desert, eliminate between forty to one hundred species, erode 71 million tons of top soil, add 27 hundred tons of CFCs to the stratosphere, and increase their population by 263,000 people. Regardless of your religious denomination, we are all called upon to nuture, to protect, and preserve the Earth. Remember: “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children” (A Native American Proverb). Earth Day is fast approaching. Please take that 1ST step to sustainability.
Sincerely
